THE MYTH

As we enter into the summertime, our attention turns to Demeter, also known as Ceres and Gaia. Mother Goddess (Divine Mother) of the harvest, agriculture and fertility, she suffered greatly when her daughter Persephone (soul) was abducted and raped by Pluto (ego) and taken down to live in Hades (earth).  Persephone was forced to spend half of the year in the underworld, away from the Light, until eventually Demeter, through great persistence and love for her daughter Persephone, found and freed her from the realm of darkness.
